No Whining: The Story of Dr. Toni McLaurin is an intimate portrait of Dr. Toni McLaurin, the second Black woman in the United States to become an orthopedic trauma specialist, now one of only 13 in the country.  In addition to documenting the life story of Dr. McLaurin, the film will address racial and gender equity in the field of medicine and orthopedics in particular. For instance, Black women make up only .4-.6% of orthopedic surgeons in the United States. At the current rate of change, it will take more than 200 years for gender parity to be achieved in the field of orthopedic surgery.  In a world that Dr. McLaurin describes as having primarily a “bro culture”, she is a powerful role model for all women and girls. This film will shine a light on an extraordinary woman who has made, and continues to make, life-altering differences in so many people’s lives.
